Tax Rate
The Festus School District has a tax rate that is among the lowest in Jeffeson County. In 2019, voters approved a 59-cent tax increase to pay for the construction of a new Performing Arts Center, two additional School Resource Officers, construction of a new high school gymnasium, HVAC upgrades at the Intermediate School, a new bus pick-up and drop-off location at the Elementary School.
Since the passage of Proposition F, all of those things have been accomplished, with the exception of the new gymnasium which is under construction now. In addtion, the District has also added a new 6th grade wing to the middle school, construction is underway to add a new 3rd grade wing to the intermediate school, and a new baseball/softball field was constructed.
The passage of Proposition F allowed for a maximum tax rate of $4.34, which was levied just one time since its passage in 2019. A Missouri Constitutional amendment known as “The Hancock Amendment” allows a district to collect no more than 5% (or the amount of the Consumer Price Index, whichever is lower) of new revenue every year based on assessments. Every year since 2022 the District tax rate has been below the maximum approved by voters in 2019.
